Welcome to The Story Letter!
This is a newsletter for the story-obsessed. I’m glad you found me!
I’m a storyteller, story editor, educator and author. Every few weeks I’m sharing what I’m actually excited about these days: memoir and storytelling techniques I’m trying in my own writing, personal stories about creativity and relationships, and essays about pop culture and narrative.
Why join me?
Well. I’ve been teaching storytelling since 2012. I’ve won multiple Moth GrandSLAMS, published an Audible Original memoir, I’ve got a memoir from HarperOne on the way, and I’m the former Director of Education for The Moth. I’m a story editor for award-winning audio, and I’ve coached over a thousand storytellers, from Buddhist leaders to high school juniors. (You can find out more about me here.)
But I do NOT pretend to have it all figured out. In the last couple years I’ve realized it’s not really that fun to write in an “expert” voice. Instead, I want to share what lights me up. So that’s what THIS is.
Is this for you?
My hope is that The Story Letter will feel like your smartest, strangest friend — the one who reads bonkers romance, has strong opinions about story structure, and gets genuinely excited about narrative craft.
I’m here to share what I’m figuring out in real time and also to remind you: YOU have stories to tell. And you’re a goddamn delight.
Want to work with me on your stories, or bring me to your organization? Find out more here.
